Frequently Asked Questions

Office Information

Where is your office located?

My practice is completely virtual. I provide all counseling appointments via video.

Will I be comfortable in your virtual office?

I hope so! My virtual office space was designed with you in mind. You will find soft lighting, a pleasing background and the use of a HIPAA compliant video platform to ensure the privacy of your video session.

Why do you not have a physical office?

In early 2020 as the world began to adapt to living with COVID-19 in our midst, I turned to teletherapy as a way to ensure the safety of my clients and my family. What I discovered was that I really enjoyed practicing virtually. My clients began to comment that they appreciated the convenience it provided and that they did not miss the having to commute to a physical setting.

As a result of what I was noticing for myself and this feedback from my clients, I chose to convert my practice to a solely virtual boutique model. I have been pleased as my clients return to school in other parts of the state or move away from the Mason, Southwest Ohio area for other reasons, that I can continue to work with them as needed with no interruptions in service and no need to switch providers.

Can I meet with you even if I do not live in Mason or Southwest Ohio?

If you are physically located in the state of Ohio, we can meet.

Contact and Scheduling Information

How do I contact you?

Whichever way you most prefer.

Phone: (513) 904-9322
Email: plange@lifeinspiredcounseling.com
Contact form: located at the bottom of each page of the website

It is important to me to get back to you within one business day whenever possible. If you do not hear back from me within a day, I likely did not receive your communication and welcome you to reach out to me again. It is important to me that your questions be answered in as timely a manner as possible – it is what I would want.

How do I schedule?

You can call or email to schedule your appointment.

You can also click the link below to view available appointment times and schedule your appointment through my secure online scheduler. If you do not see a time that works for you, please feel free to call me to see if I might be able accommodate your scheduling needs.

I’ve scheduled, now what?

I will respond at least 3 days prior to your scheduled appointment with a welcome email confirming your appointment and providing you a link to my client portal where you can fill out many of my practice forms prior to your first appointment. Completing the forms prior to your first appointment will help maximize our time together.

Insurance and Payment Information

Can I use my insurance?

If you are covered by any of the plans listed below, then the answer is likely yes.

  • Aetna Better Health of Ohio (Medicaid only, I am not paneled with Aetna Commercial Plan)
  • Ambetter
  • Anthem
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • Buckeye
  • CareSource
  • Cigna
  • Custom Design Benefits
  • Humana
  • MedBen
  • Medical Mutual
  • Molina
  • Ohio Medicaid
  • Optum
  • Oscar Health Plan
  • Paramount
  • UMR
  • UnitedHealthcare
  • UnitedHealthcare Community Plan
If I use my insurance, how much will it cover and what will I have to pay?

This will vary with every insurance company and every plan.

It is important for you to call your insurance company prior to your appointment to determine your coverage.

You will want to ask your insurance company these questions:

  1. Do I have coverage for mental health or behavioral health services?
  2. Does my coverage include teletherapy or telehealth?
  3. If I have Employee Assistance Program coverage, is Life Inspired Counseling a covered provider?
  4. Do I have to meet my deductible first before the session fees are covered?
  5. Do I have a co-pay or co-insurance?
  6. How many sessions are covered per year?

Please check with your insurance company prior to your first appointment to understand your benefits because you will be responsible for any contracted amount your insurance company does not cover.

What if you do not take my insurance?

You could also choose to use a flexible spending account or an HSA to pay for the sessions.
If you do not have a flexible spending account or an HSA, you would pay my session fee at the time of your session.

I can provide you with a Superbill that you may submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. It will include all of the necessary information your insurance company will need to determine if they will reimburse you for the therapy.

I advise checking this out with your insurance company prior to your appointment. You will want to ask them if they reimburse for out-of- network mental health or behavioral health services.

Paying out of pocket also is always an option if you choose to not use your insurance. My rate is $130 for a 60-minute therapy or coaching session.

Why do people choose not to use their insurance?

When a therapist submits a claim to an insurance company, we must include a diagnosis. Your insurance company then has a record of a mental health diagnosis. They may also at times ask for your records to verify services exposing more of your protected mental health information to the insurance company.

Some of my clients do not want an official record of a mental health diagnosis being provided to their insurance company.

If you pay out of pocket, no one but you and your therapist have access to your mental health records.

You mentioned on your ABOUT page that you do not look for what is wrong, but rather what is right with your clients. How do you do that when you have to submit a diagnosis to an insurance company?

Yes, if you choose to use your insurance, I am required to assign a diagnosis for your insurance to pay for services. While I am required to do this for reimbursement, it will not change how I view you, work with you, or the questions I ask you. My focus will remain on your hopes from the therapy and what you hope to be different as a result of our work together.

How long are sessions?

Session length varies depending on your insurance coverage. For planning purposes, assume you will be with me for approximately an hour.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept cash, all major credit cards, and health savings account cards.

Therapy/Counseling Information

I’ve never done this before, what should I expect?

My hope is that your first session will be as comfortable as possible. I’ll do a couple of things to get started:

  • First, you will receive a welcome email prior to your appointment. You will have the opportunity to read and digitally sign all practice documents and provide some information about yourself.
  • Next, you will receive a link to your video session.
  • Once we meet, we’ll discuss confidentiality, privacy, and your rights.
  • And then, once all the business stuff is out of the way, we get to concentrate completely on you. We will explore your hopes from therapy, answer any questions you might have about me or the process of therapy, and then move on to conversations that will help to move you toward your preferred way of living your life.

That doesn’t sound too bad, does it?

How often should we meet?

I leave this up to you. It varies. Some people like to meet every week to start. Some people prefer every couple of weeks and some people decide to meet once per month as they are feeling better and seeing progress. It’s important to me that you do what fits your needs and your schedule. I will not prescribe therapy, but rather explore what works best for you.

I might swear, I might cry, I might not know what to say… is that okay?

Of course! I accept you for who you are – sailor swearing, ugly crying, not-knowing-what-to-say you is who I look forward to meeting. I do not expect you to be anyone other then who you are.

Just… don’t be surprised if I swear a little as well, possibly tear up at signs of your progress or stumble on my words too! I’m also human by the way.

Do you prescribe medication?

No. I do not have a psychiatrist or a doctor on staff, so my practice does not prescribe medication. If you are looking for medication to help you, you will want to consult with your primary care doctor or a psychiatrist.

I do not want to take medication. Will you push me to take something?

Absolutely not. I respect your choices and will always explore with you what works best for you.

What is Paula’s education?

I initially learned to fly a plane when I was 18 and thought I would end up working as a pilot. Life took a turn and I instead earned a Bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in aviation management from The Ohio State University. Then, once I realized what I really wanted to be when I grew up, I returned to earn a Masters in social work degree from the University of Cincinnati so that I could work as a therapist.

I am trained to work as a psychotherapist, have been doing so for the past 9 years and am licensed to practice in the state of Ohio and also via teletherapy in Florida.

Why did you choose Life Inspired Counseling as your practice name?

Inspire means to guide someone to feel that they want to do something and can do it. I see my job as a guide to help you to identify what you want and to help you to see that you have within you what it takes to achieve it. My hope is that more people can live a Life Inspired.
